Keep your Constant Contact list clean and deliverable
Constant Contact automatically stops sending to addresses that hard-bounce and moves opt-outs to your Do Not Mail list — but it can't judge an address it has never sent to, and those never-mailed invalids are what quietly inflate both your bounce rate and, because Constant Contact bills by contact, your monthly invoice. Qualisend closes that gap: export a list or segment, verify every address, and delete or suppress the dead ones before your next campaign. Here's the workflow that works today, plus the API and no-code options.

One-click Constant Contact sync is paused while we rebuild the platform
We've deliberately paused our one-click native connectors while we re-engineer the sync layer they run on — hardening how we authenticate, respect each platform's rate limits, and write results back — so that when the native Constant Contact integration returns, it stays dependable at any list size rather than fragile at scale. None of this touches how Qualisend verifies an address.
Everything you need works today: the CSV export → verify → reimport loop below, and the API for verifying at signup, are both fully supported and running in production — that's how teams keep Constant Contact clean right now.
What Constant Contact cleans for you
Constant Contact's native hygiene is built around one idea: an address that proves undeliverable or opts out stops being mailable. A hard bounce flags the contact as non-mailable and excludes it from your next campaign — usually after a single bounce, since the failure is permanent. Unsubscribes and spam complaints are moved to your account's Do Not Mail list, and repeated soft bounces eventually escalate to undeliverable and get dropped. Suppressed contacts on most plans are excluded from your billable count, so Constant Contact's own housekeeping never inflates your bill. For addresses it has actually mailed, that's dependable automatic hygiene.
What it can't catch
The catch is that every one of those mechanisms is reactive — it needs a send and a bounce (or a complaint) to fire. Never-mailed invalids from imports, old form fills, and signup typos have never bounced because they've never been sent to, so Constant Contact has no signal on them until your first campaign hits them — which is exactly when a mailbox provider forms its first impression of your domain. Disposable addresses, role addresses (info@, support@), and decayed mailboxes slip through the same blind spot. An imported list is the sharpest case: it arrives with its bounce history amputated, so addresses that were already failing on the old platform look brand new — and count toward your billable tier from the moment they land.
Why a clean Constant Contact list matters
On Constant Contact the stakes are double, because it prices its tiered plans on your number of active, mailable contacts. Every dead address is a line item on your invoice as well as a drag on deliverability — undeliverable and disposable contacts push you toward the next pricing tier while pulling down the engagement rates that Constant Contact's own reputation model, and Gmail and Yahoo's sender requirements, judge you on. Cleaning before a send does two jobs at once: it can drop your active count under a plan threshold at renewal, and it protects the inbox placement of the campaigns that actually convert. On a platform that bills per contact, hygiene is a line-item saving, not just a reputation safeguard.
The workflow that works today
Direct connectors are paused while we rebuild the platform, so the dependable path is the CSV loop: export from Constant Contact, verify in Qualisend, reimport the clean file.
Export a list or segment from Constant Contact
In your contacts area, open the list or segment you want to clean and export it to CSV. Make sure the email column is included in the download — build a targeted segment first if you only want to maintenance-clean part of your audience.
Verify the file in Qualisend
Upload the CSV to Qualisend bulk cleaning — up to 1,000,000 addresses per job, duplicates charged once — or paste addresses directly. The free plan's 100 credits, which never expire, cover a first sample before you commit.
Read the results
Every address returns deliverable, risky, undeliverable, or unknown with a reason code and sub-flags (catch-all, disposable, role, full mailbox), plus the MX provider and probe detail as evidence. Download the cleaned CSV.
Retire the undeliverables in Constant Contact
Filter your results to undeliverable, then either delete those contacts or add them to your Do Not Mail list. Both stop the sends and, on per-contact billing, both typically drop the addresses out of your billable count. Do Not Mail keeps a suppression record so a future re-import can't silently re-add them; deleting frees the contact slot but erases that safety record, so reserve it for genuine junk.
Or automate it at signup
Prefer to keep junk out from the start? Verify at the point of capture with the Qualisend REST API (scoped keys, rate limits, webhooks), or wire a no-code flow through Zapier, Make, or n8n so new Constant Contact contacts are checked before they're ever added — that way typos and disposable addresses never become billable contacts in the first place.
What Qualisend flags on every address
- Never-mailed invalid addresses that would hard-bounce on your next campaign
- Disposable / throwaway domains built to expire before you can reach them
- Role addresses (info@, support@) that skew engagement metrics and attract complaints
- Catch-all domains, flagged so you can segment and throttle them instead of blasting
- A 0–100 confidence score and machine-readable reason code for every address
A native, one-click Constant Contact connector is part of the platform we're rebuilding — it's returning, not deprecated. Until it ships, the CSV loop above and the API are the fully supported path, and they work with any Constant Contact plan.
What to do with each result
Every address comes back with a verdict and sub-flags. Here's the action that keeps your Constant Contact list clean without throwing away contacts you can still reach.
deliverableKeep sending as normal.deliverable + role flagKeep for transactional and account mail; exclude from engagement-judged automations.risky + catch-all flagMove to a dedicated segment and throttle, rather than blasting the whole domain at once.risky + disposable flagAdd to Do Not Mail — the inbox was built to expire.unknownKeep active and re-verify next clean — usually a temporary block or rate-limit, not a verdict on the mailbox.undeliverableDelete or add to Do Not Mail; don't wait for the bounce to prove it.Related reading
