Keep your BigCommerce customer list clean and deliverable

BigCommerce reliably fires the transactional mail your store runs on: order confirmations, receipts, and shipping updates. What it doesn't do is tell you which customer emails are typos, throwaways, or long-dead before you send to them. Qualisend closes that gap with a native BigCommerce connector that verifies and cleans your customer list in place, plus a REST API to check every new email at checkout.

Connect BigCommerce and clean it in place

Connect BigCommerce and Qualisend verifies your customer emails in place — no export. Clean the customers you already have, tag the risky ones, and check every new customer in real time so order confirmations and receipts actually land.

Prefer to work by hand, or verify at signup through your own stack? The CSV export → verify → reimport loop below and the REST API are fully supported too.

What BigCommerce cleans for you

BigCommerce stores an "Accepts Marketing" consent flag on every customer record, and unsubscribes or opt-outs flip that flag so downstream marketing tools know who not to email. It sends transactional order mail directly and lets you organize buyers into Customer Groups for segmentation. But BigCommerce is a store platform, not a deliverability engine: it does not maintain a bounce-driven suppression list inside the control panel. Hard bounces from your sends aren't collected into a reusable do-not-mail list, so a bad address stays in your customer grid looking exactly like a good one.

The gap it leaves

What it can't catch

BigCommerce can't catch an address that has never been mailed. A checkout typo like "gmial.com," a fake email entered to grab a first-order discount, a disposable throwaway, a role inbox, or a mailbox that quietly decayed since signup all get accepted and saved as normal customers. Native handling is reactive by design: an address only outs itself as bad after you send and it bounces, and BigCommerce doesn't feed those failures back into any suppression. Worse, customer lists migrated in from another platform arrive with their bounce history stripped, so every imported address reads as clean no matter how many times it failed before.

Why a clean BigCommerce list matters

Your order confirmations, receipts, and shipping notices absolutely have to land, and they share sender reputation with the promotional mail your store sends. Every fake or mistyped checkout email that bounces chips away at that reputation and can start pushing legitimate transactional mail to spam. Since 2024, Gmail and Yahoo hold bulk senders to strict bounce and spam-complaint thresholds, and a customer list padded with invalids blows past them fast. Cleaning the list before you send keeps deliverability high and your store's mail out of the junk folder.

Prefer CSV or the API? Here's the manual path

The native connector is the fastest route, but the CSV loop works on any BigCommerce plan: export from BigCommerce, verify in Qualisend, and act on the results.

1

Export customers to CSV

In the BigCommerce control panel, go to Customers > View, filter or select the customers you want, then click Export and download the CSV. The file includes each customer's email address.

2

Verify the file in Qualisend

Upload the CSV to Qualisend's bulk cleaner. It handles up to 1,000,000 addresses per job, charges duplicates only once, shows live progress, and returns a downloadable cleaned CSV. Your first 100 credits are free and never expire, enough to sample your list.

3

Read the results

Every address comes back as deliverable, risky, undeliverable, or unknown, each with a reason code, sub-flags (catch-all, disposable, role, full mailbox), the MX provider, SMTP probe evidence, and a 0–100 confidence score.

4

Act on your customer records

Back in the Customers grid, delete the undeliverable records, move risky addresses into a dedicated Customer Group to throttle or segment, and uncheck Accepts Marketing on anything you want to stop mailing while keeping the record for order history.

Or automate it at signup

Skip the manual loop by verifying at the point of capture: call the Qualisend REST API from your checkout or signup flow, or wire a Zapier, Make, or n8n automation to BigCommerce's "New Customer" webhook so every new email is scored the moment it's created and risky ones are tagged before they ever reach a send.

Native connector status

The native BigCommerce connector is live — connect it in Qualisend under Integrations and clean your list without a single CSV. New contacts are verified automatically, and you can re-verify on a schedule.

What to do with each result

Every address comes back with a verdict and sub-flags. Here's the action that keeps your BigCommerce list clean without throwing away contacts you can still reach.

deliverableKeep the customer active and in your marketing audience.
deliverable + role flagKeep the record but move info@/support@ into a separate Customer Group; don't rely on it for personalized flows.
risky + catch-all flagSegment into a throttle group and send slowly while watching bounces, rather than blasting it.
risky + disposable flagUncheck Accepts Marketing or delete the record; a throwaway that will decay fast.
unknownSkip it on this send and re-verify next cycle before mailing.
undeliverableDelete the customer record or unsubscribe it; never mail this address.
