Keep your MailerLite subscribers clean and deliverable

MailerLite moves hard-bounced subscribers to a Bounced status for you and doesn't bill you for them - but it can't judge an address it has never sent to, and its Clean up inactive tool only looks at engagement, not validity. Those never-mailed invalids sit in your Active count, billable and untested, until your next campaign hits them. Qualisend closes that gap: export your subscribers, verify every address, and retire the dead ones before they cost you a send. Here's the workflow that works today, plus the API and no-code options.

Connect MailerLite and clean it in place

Connect MailerLite with an API key and Qualisend verifies the lists you already have - right inside MailerLite, no export. Dead and risky addresses are suppressed or archived for you, every new subscriber is checked in real time, and you can re-verify on a schedule so the list never drifts back to dirty.

Prefer to work by hand, or verify at signup through your own stack? The CSV export → verify → reimport loop below and the REST API are fully supported too.

What MailerLite cleans for you

MailerLite's native hygiene runs on subscriber statuses. A subscriber that hard-bounces - or soft-bounces three times in a row - is moved automatically out of your Active list into the Bounced status and receives no future campaigns, with no manual step from you. Because MailerLite prices on your Active subscriber count, Bounced and Unsubscribed subscribers are excluded from billing, so its own cleaning never inflates your invoice. For addresses MailerLite has actually mailed, that's reliable automatic hygiene.

The gap it leaves

What it can't catch

The catch is that all of that is reactive - it needs a send and a bounce to fire. Never-mailed invalids from imports, signup forms, and typos, plus disposable addresses, role addresses, and mailboxes that have quietly decayed, all look healthy until your first campaign hits them - which is exactly when a mailbox provider forms its first impression of your domain. MailerLite's Clean up inactive tool won't catch them either: it retires subscribers by engagement (by default, those inactive for six months who received more than ten emails), so a never-mailed invalid - which has received zero emails - sails straight past the filter while still counting as an Active, billable subscriber. Engagement cleanup and validity cleanup are different jobs.

Why a clean MailerLite list matters

On MailerLite the stakes are double, because MailerLite bills on your Active subscriber count. Every dead never-mailed address is a line item on your invoice as well as a drag on deliverability - it inflates your subscriber tier while pulling down the engagement rates that build your sending reputation and that Gmail and Yahoo's 2024 sender rules judge you on. MailerLite's automatic bounce handling already keeps mailed-and-bounced addresses off your bill; the invalids it hasn't mailed yet are the ones you're quietly paying for. Cleaning before a send does two jobs at once: it can move you under a subscriber pricing threshold, and it protects the inbox placement of the campaigns that actually convert.

Prefer CSV or the API? Here's the manual path

The native connector is the fastest route, but the CSV loop works on any MailerLite plan: export from MailerLite, verify in Qualisend, and act on the results.

1

Export your subscribers from MailerLite

Open Subscribers, filter to the group or segment you want to clean, and export it to CSV.

2

Verify the file in Qualisend

Upload the CSV to Qualisend bulk cleaning - up to 1,000,000 addresses, duplicates charged once - or paste addresses directly. The free plan's 100 credits cover a first sample.

3

Read the results

Every address returns deliverable, risky, undeliverable, or unknown with a reason code and sub-flags (catch-all, disposable, role, full mailbox), plus the MX provider and probe detail as evidence. Download the cleaned CSV.

4

Retire the undeliverables in MailerLite

MailerLite has no import-to-suppression list, so the clean way to retire dead addresses is by status: filter your results to undeliverable, then delete those subscribers or move them to Unsubscribed. Either way they leave your Active count - the count MailerLite bills on - and stop receiving campaigns. This catches the invalids that hard-bounce handling never reached because you hadn't mailed them yet.

Or automate it at signup

Prefer to keep junk out from the start? Verify at the point of capture with the Qualisend REST API (scoped keys, rate limits, webhooks), or wire a no-code flow through Zapier, Make, or n8n so a new MailerLite subscriber is checked before it's ever added - and never becomes an Active, billable subscriber in the first place.

What Qualisend flags on every address

Native connector status

The native MailerLite connector is live - connect it in Qualisend under Integrations and clean your list without a single CSV. New contacts are verified automatically, and you can re-verify on a schedule.

What to do with each result

Every address comes back with a verdict and sub-flags. Here's the action that keeps your MailerLite list clean without throwing away contacts you can still reach.

deliverableKeep as an active subscriber.
deliverable + role flagKeep for transactional content; exclude from engagement-judged automations.
risky + catch-all flagMove to a dedicated group and throttle your sends.
risky + disposable flagDelete or unsubscribe - the inbox was built to expire.
unknownKeep active and re-verify next clean - usually greylisting, not a verdict on the mailbox.
undeliverableDelete or move to Unsubscribed; don't wait for the bounce to prove it.
