Keep your HubSpot marketing contacts clean and deliverable
HubSpot automatically suppresses addresses that hard-bounce or draw spam complaints, but it can't judge an address it has never sent to — and those never-mailed invalids quietly inflate both your bounce rate and your marketing contact count. Qualisend closes that gap: export your contacts, verify every address, and retire the dead ones so junk never reaches a send and never sits on your bill. Here's the workflow that works today, plus the API and no-code options.

One-click HubSpot sync is paused while we rebuild the platform
We've deliberately paused our one-click native connectors while we re-engineer the sync layer they run on — hardening how we authenticate, respect each platform's rate limits, and write results back — so that when the native HubSpot integration returns, it stays dependable at any list size rather than fragile at scale. None of this touches how Qualisend verifies an address.
Everything you need works today: the CSV export → verify → reimport loop below, and the API for verifying at signup, are both fully supported and running in production — that's how teams keep HubSpot clean right now.
What HubSpot cleans for you
HubSpot's native hygiene is built on automatic suppression: once a contact hard-bounces or files a spam complaint, HubSpot systematically drops it from future marketing email, and for certain bounce reasons that suppression can go global — the address is bounced across HubSpot accounts, not just yours. For addresses HubSpot has actually mailed, that's dependable automatic hygiene. The catch is that suppression is not deletion: a suppressed contact stays in your account and, crucially, still counts as a billable marketing contact until you change its status or delete it.
What it can't catch
Every one of those mechanisms is reactive — it needs a send and a bounce to fire. Never-mailed invalids from imports and old form fills, typos captured at signup, disposable addresses, role addresses, and decayed mailboxes all look healthy until your first campaign hits them, which is exactly when a mailbox provider forms its first impression of your domain. An imported list is the sharpest case: it arrives with its bounce history stripped, so addresses that were already failing elsewhere look brand new in HubSpot — and each one starts counting toward your marketing contact tier the moment it lands, long before HubSpot has any signal on it.
Why a clean HubSpot list matters
On HubSpot the stakes are double, because HubSpot bills on marketing contacts — the contacts you're allowed to send marketing email to. Every dead address is a line item on your invoice as well as a drag on deliverability. And here's the trap most senders miss: HubSpot's automatic bounce suppression stops the sends but does not lower your bill — a suppressed hard bounce still counts as a marketing contact until you set it non-marketing or delete it. Verifying and then retiring the undeliverable and disposable addresses is what actually moves you down a pricing tier — and it protects the engagement rates that HubSpot's own reputation model, plus Gmail and Yahoo's 2024 sender rules, judge you on.
The workflow that works today
Direct connectors are paused while we rebuild the platform, so the dependable path is the CSV loop: export from HubSpot, verify in Qualisend, reimport the clean file.
Export your contacts from HubSpot
In Contacts, filter to the list or view you want to clean — or the freshly imported list — then export it to CSV with the email property included.
Verify the file in Qualisend
Upload the CSV to Qualisend bulk cleaning — up to 1,000,000 addresses, duplicates charged once — or paste addresses directly. The free plan's 100 credits cover a first sample.
Read the results
Every address returns deliverable, risky, undeliverable, or unknown with a reason code and sub-flags (catch-all, disposable, role, full mailbox), plus the MX provider and probe detail as evidence. Download the cleaned CSV.
Set the undeliverables to non-marketing in HubSpot
Filter your results to undeliverable, then in HubSpot set those contacts to non-marketing. It's the cleanest move: it stops every marketing send and removes them from your billable marketing contact count without deleting the record — so a future import can't silently re-add a known-bad address. Deleting works too, but loses the history that keeps them out.
Or automate it at signup
Prefer to keep junk out from the start? Verify at the point of capture with the Qualisend REST API (scoped keys, rate limits, webhooks), or wire a no-code flow through Zapier, Make, or n8n so a new HubSpot contact is checked before it's ever created — and before it counts as a billable marketing contact.
What Qualisend flags on every address
- Never-mailed invalid addresses that would hard-bounce on your next campaign
- Disposable / throwaway domains built to expire
- Role addresses (info@, support@) that skew engagement-scored automations and workflows
- Catch-all domains, flagged so you can segment and throttle them
- A 0–100 confidence score and machine-readable reason code for every address
A native, one-click HubSpot connector is part of the platform we're rebuilding — it's returning, not deprecated. Until it ships, the CSV loop above and the API are the fully supported path, and they work with any HubSpot tier.
What to do with each result
Every address comes back with a verdict and sub-flags. Here's the action that keeps your HubSpot list clean without throwing away contacts you can still reach.
